  Patrick Henry K-8 and Recreation Center

This joint project with the City of Alexandria, Department of Recreation Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) and Alexandria City Public Schools included the replacement and expansion of the existing 670-student elementary school and the existing 8,779 SF recreation center with a new 900-student elementary/middle school and a new 18,000 SF recreation center.  The new building provides the community with 21st century learning and recreational environment in a LEED Silver certified energy efficient school that incorporates the latest technological advancements and cutting edge educational design.

The new 137,000 SF elementary school features a three-story academic wing and includes, a cafetorium/kitchen, multi-purpose room, music, art rooms, black box theater, media center, administrative spaces, lobby, health room, storage, teacher lounges, science labs, and classrooms.  The new recreational center includes flexible spaces for various uses as well as indoor walking/running lanes, a weight/fitness room, and administrative space to support the needs of community users of various ages. 

The new facility was constructed while the existing educational facility remained occupied and fully operational.
